Digital loyalty cards for restaurants

A guest who loved their first meal still needs a nudge to make it a habit. A loyalty card in Apple or Google Wallet gives them one: points from what they spend, rewards they can see building and a gentle prompt when they’re nearby. No app, no paper card to lose.

How it works for restaurants

01

Points that follow the bill

Set up a points card with a rewards menu, perhaps a dessert, a glass of fizz or a bottle of house wine. Points are worked out from what the table spends, or typed in by staff, so bigger evenings earn more.

02

Joining from a poster

A QR poster by the door or the till opens a branded join page. Guests give their name, plus an email or phone if you ask, and add the card to their wallet. Anyone who shares contact details gets the link sent to them.

03

Scanned at the till, no kit

Staff scan the card with any phone or tablet camera through a PIN-protected link, with no login to remember. A USB or Bluetooth scanner works too if you have one, and a mis-scan can be undone within 15 minutes.

04

Quiet nights, a gentle nudge

Send an offer to members who ticked the offers box, straight to their lock screen as a wallet notification. Choose everyone, guests nearly at a reward, or those who haven’t been in for a while, when midweek looks slow.

A slow February at The Juniper Table

A midweek nudge to guests who’d drifted away

February is always slow at The Juniper Table. Priya set up a points card in the autumn, with points worked out from each bill and a dessert or a bottle of house wine on the rewards menu. In February she sent one wallet message to members who hadn’t been in for a while and had ticked the offers box: a reminder that the winter set menu was back on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It landed on their lock screens that afternoon.

An illustration of how it works, not a real customer.

The film

Stamp or points cards in Apple and Google Wallet: customers join from the counter-poster QR with no app, staff stamp by scanning with any phone camera, and updates, offers and a nearby prompt arrive on the lock screen. It works the same way for restaurants.

Questions

No, it doesn’t link to your till or EPOS. Staff scan the guest’s card with a phone or tablet camera, or look them up by name, phone or code, and type in the spend if you run a points card. It fits into paying the bill.

Offers go out as wallet notifications on the card itself, only to members who ticked a separate box to hear about them. They’re capped at one a day per card and one per person every three days, so nobody feels bombarded.

No. The card lives in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, which is already on their phone. There’s no app and no account to create. On iPhone, they can also get a gentle reminder on their lock screen when they’re near the restaurant.
